Inverleigh is actively enhancing youth support by developing state-of-the-art recreational facilities, including the newly opened Inverleigh Active Youth Space, which features a BMX track, upgraded skate park, and basketball courts, all designed to promote physical activity and social engagement among young people.

From the Golden Plains Shire Council

Council welcomes the allocation of $1,487,587 from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund for the Inverleigh Active Youth Space.

Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle MP visited Inverleigh on Friday 7 October 2022 to announce the funding for the Inverleigh Active Youth Space project which will expand and develop the Yerram Yaluk Bun Play Space in Inverleigh to an active recreation and community space.

The upgraded facility will include:

  • A new skate park
  • BMX Pump Track
  • Social Basketball Courts
  • Seating
  • Shade and Shelters
  • Beautification works 
The Active Youth Space designs seek to provide increased opportunities for young people in the growing township of Inverleigh to be physically active, build social connections and encourage positive behaviours.

In addition to the funding announcement, the Australian Government has committed $700,000 and Council will contribute $150,000 to complete the funding for this partnership project.

Inverleigh Community Youth Precinct Proposal

Following on from the 2021 Inverleigh Community Youth Survey, a proposal has been drafted by the Inverleigh Progress Association for an inclusive Inverleigh Youth Precinct.

The proposed Inverleigh Youth Precinct would incorporate 3 new youth facilities and a number of key supporting structures and features.

The new facilities to be considered as a priority are:

  • Asphalt Bike Pump Track
  • New Skatepark
  • Basketball full court

The supporting structures and features to be considered as integral to the proposal are:

  • Additional car parking
  • Connecting concrete paths with full disability access
  • A solid shelter with picnic tables
  • Additional seating options
  • Suitable landscaping that links to the existing Inverleigh Playspace.

The Inverleigh Youth Precinct Proposal was be submitted to the Golden Plains Shire Council for possible future applications of Federal and State Government grant funding.

Inverleigh Community Survey

Youth Facilities and Services 2021

A short survey was put together by community members on behalf of the Inverleigh Progress Association, when it was identified that the youth could be better supported in our community. It was open for public consultation throughout February 2021 and attracted 192 responses.

The purpose of the survey was to help determine what facilities and services are needed in Inverleigh to cater specifically for youth aged between 12 – 20 years old.

The results will assist the Inverleigh Progress Association in lobbying and seeking funding for improved youth facilities and services for the Inverleigh township.
